Hello fellow beings of the internet of whom I am honored to have reading my very first blog post. I’m finally doing this! I’ve been dabbling with the idea of starting my own blog for years. I actually started one when I was in high school. I scrapped it after realizing just how abysmal and boring my writing was. I remember an article which I published about my travels hitch-hiking to San Francisco from my home in Utah. The story itself was amazing but was ruined by my own telling! That’s how awful it was.

Since than, I’ve entered university and declared my major in communications with an emphasis towards journalism. I’m taking advantage of this platform to express my ideas through the beauty and complexity of words. I have all my English and communication professors to thanks for guiding me along the way and opening my mind to the world of writing.

My first blog is to introduce myself to you. I’m sure that you’ll learn more about me in future blog posts. Through my own experience, I’ve got a plethora of stories and topics that I hope will be relatable.

Mucho gusto, my name is Erik Hight. I’m 23 years young and was born and raised in Salt Lake City, the hidden gem of the desert. Currently I’m a full time student at Utah Valley University. I couldn’t tell you all my interests as I consider myself a renaissance man but I could tell you which interests are dear to my heart. I love music. I love to play it, I love to listen to it, I like to find it. Some guy named Plato once said,

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”

So its safe to assume that music is a central theme that I’ll express through my blogging. I’m going to use my blog page as a place to hone my writing skills and share my experience of life to the world. As an introvert, I’ve often dealt with the fear of what others think about me. I don’t know that guy anymore. 2019 is the year of the Erik and I’m not going to hold back! I think its so important to share my voice and mind to the world. Hopefully I can speak to somebody out there. I plan to cover topics including philosophy, religion, LGBTQ topics, mental health, and politics. I really hope to receive engagement from you! I rely on constructive criticism to become a better writer so please, If you see room for improvement, tell me.
